Philadelphia, PA - The men's baseball team earned a split with the University of Sciences yesterday in FDR Park by scores of 2-3 and 9-5. The split takes the Warriors CACC record to 10-6.
Sciences would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, stringing together 3 2-out hits to take an early lead in the contest. Starter Jose Corrales would blank the Devils for the next 5 frames and the Warriors would trail 3-0 after 6 innings of play.
Nyack would add a run in 7th and a run in the 8th, but would be unable to score the tying run to extend in the 9th and UScience would hold on to take game 1 3-2.
The Nyack bats would come alive in the opening frame of game 2, beginning the contest with a 4 spot in the top of the first. John Kennedy would begin the game with a double and come in on a wild pitch. Phil Erwin would triple and score on a passed ball and Yoni Rodriguez would double in Ryan Kahl to bring in the Warriors 3rd run. Jack Hudak would bring home Rodriguez with a 2-out rbi single to make the score 4-0 Warriors.
Uscience would make it a 4-2 game with a 2 spot in the 2nd, but Rodriguez would add another rbi single scoring Erwin who had started the inning off with a double to left center to give Nyack a 5-2 lead. Sciences would add runs in the 5th and the 6th to make the score 5-4 Nyack, but the Warriors would regain a commanding lead with a 3-spot in the top of the 7th.
John Kennedy would begin the frame with a double and advance home on a mishandled sac bunt off the bat of Benitez. Benitez would come all the way to third on the play and would come in when Erwin knocked his 2nd triple of the contest. Kahl would single in Erwin for Nyack's 8th run.
Kennedy would put an exclamation point onto the Warriors game 2 offensive performance, blasting a solo homer to dead center for his 2nd round tripper of the year.
Bussey would go the distance in the 9-5 win, for his 4th consecutive complete game and his 5th CG of the season. Bussey would scatter 11 hits allowing 5 runs and striking out 5. Erwin and Kennedy would both go 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored a piece in the Warrior win. Kahl, Correa and Rodriguez would each register multi-hit games in the night cap.
Nyack has a pair of CACC Double headers remaining in the 2016 campaign. The Warriors take on Bloomfield College this Saturday for Senior Night, with senior night recognition beginning at 440 PM and first pitch slated for 5 PM.
