Philadelphia, PA - The Nyack College baseball team traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon to square off with the University of the Sciences Devils in a CACC doubleheader. The Warriors took both games with scores of 13-3 and 12-10. With the sweep the Warriors are now 17-15-1 and 10-8 in CACC play and are now sitting in second place in the CACC North Division.
The Warriors jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded Luke Kelly was hit by a pitch which allowed Alec Petterson to move home. Anthony Torreullas then reached on fielder's choice and Herman Alavardo scored. Chris Colotti's single was enough for Austin Fischer to score the third run of the inning. The Devils scored a run themselves in the bottom of the third and cut the Nyack lead to one in the bottom of the 5th. But the Warriors came back out hot for the top of the 6th scoring four runs to bring their lead back up to five, 7-2. Alec Petterson doubled down the left line and Chris Colotti scored. Jeremiah Alonzo then singled to center field which allowed Peterson to reach home plate. Austin Fischer and Jeremiah Alonzon rounded up the scoring in the inning when they scored off a Anthony Torreullas single. The Warriors put up another run in the top of the 8th when a Hayden Allen single allowed Matthew Johnson to score. But the Devils answered back right away with a run of their own, 8-3. Nyack would go on to destroy any hope that Devils had left when they scored five more in the top of the 8th to secure the win in game one.
Chase Morris led the Warriors on the mound earning his 5th win of the season. David DeGenaro finished the game for Nyack and got his first save of the year.
The Warrios started game two with a bang scoring nine runs in the first inning. The first three runs were scored off wild pitches, before the Warriors went on to get some hits up on the scorebaord. The Devils would try to fight their way back into the game. They scored seven runs in the bottom of the second and third inning to cut the Nyack lead back down to two. Nyack scored two more times in the top of the 4th. Carlos Pino got his 3rd homerun of the year and Chris Colotti scored off a Matthew Johnson single. The Warriors extended their lead to five in the top of the 7th when Luke Kelly scored off a Anthony Torreullas single. The Devils made one final push to tie up the game scoring three more runs in the bottom of the 8th but ultimately fell short of doing any more damage.
Up next: The Warriors will hist local rivals Dominican College Chargers on Tuesday in a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
