Baseball Opened Season with 1-3 Trip to Barton College

Wilson, NC - The Nyack College baseball team opened its season under new head coach Grisha Davida with a two day trip to Wilson, North Carolina to square off with the Barton College Bulldogs in two doubleheaders played on Saturday and Sunday. 

Game 1

  • Nyack was shutout in the first game of the day, with the Bulldogs scoring single runs in the bottom of the second, fifth, and sixth
  • David Gauthier made his first start on the mount for the Warriors pitiching 4.2 innings with two earned runs and four strikeout

Game 2

  • Barton scored four runs in the bottom of the second, before Gauthier signled down the right field line to send Alec Petterson home, 1-4
  • Barton scored three in the bottom of the third and seven in the bottom of the sixth
  • Nyack scored in the top of 7th, a Yoni Rodriguez sacrifice fly moved Armani Moore home and Jeremiah Alonzo's sacrifice fly scored Gabriel Vasquez

Game 3

  • Barton scored early in the bottom of the first to go up by two
  • Matthew Johnson scored the first Warrior run in top of the second after Yoni Rodriguez reached on fielder's choice and Brandon Rivera was put out on second base
  • Barton extended their lead back to two with a run in the bottom of the second, before the Warriors tied the game in the top of 4th
  • Yoni Rodriguez scored his first homerun of the season with Brandon Rivera on base to tie the game at three
  • Barton countered right away with a homerun of their own in the bottom of the 4th to take a 4-3 lead which ended up being the final score

Game 4

  • David Gauthier singled down the right field line and Yoni Rodriguez and Gabriel Vasquez scored to get Nyack on the board first
  • the Warriors scored another pair of runs in the top of the first when Matthew Johnson singled down the middle to score Alec Petterson and David Gauthier
  • Barton came back in the bottom of the fifth to score three runs and cut Nyack's lead to one
  • but David De Genaro would fend off the Bulldogs in the final three innings to secure the first win for the team and his first save of the season

Nyack will be back on February 22nd and 23rd to host the Queens College Knights in a three-game series at Nyack High School. The game on Friday will start at 6pm, while the doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled for 12pm and 3pm.
