Nyack, NY - The Nyack College men's basketball team earned a 87-74 NCAA road victory at Salem Int'l on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Warriors' record to 6-11, while Salem dropped to 1-17.
The Warriors were led by sophompore Shawn Witherspoon who scored 25 points and recorded four rebounds and three assists. He was closely followed by senior Robert Tyler with 21 points and four rebounds.
Both teams battled back and forth in the opening minutes of the first half. The game saw several lead changes and tied scores. Imran Ritchie got the Warriors back ahead with a made jump shot at the 13:49 minute mark, 11-10. Salem used two consecutive shots from behind the arc to pull away with five points. The lead would remain until the 5:29 minute mark when Robert Tyler tied the game with a made three point bucket, 27-27. The Warriors would finish the first half with a 13-4 run to gain a 9-point lead at halftime, 40-31.
With the beginning of the second half Nyack was able to increase their lead all the way to 16 with 16:15 to go, 54-38. The Warriors continued to add on to their lead making it 19 points with 12:30 to go, 65-46. Nyack was bringing the lead home during the remaining minutes of the game, while Salem was able to cut the Warrior lead down to 13. The game finished with a final score of 87-74 in favor of the Warriors.
The Warriors will travel to Connecticut on Tuesday to face the Post University Lions in a CACC match. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm.
