Dobbs Ferry, NY– The Nyack men's soccer team was topped by the Mercy College Mavericks, 3-4, in double-overtime in a non-conference game played at Mercy.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first in the 16th minute, when Pablo Montes dribled through the Mercy defense and found the back of the net with a shot into the lower right corner. Mercy would answer with three consecutive goals in the 29th, 33rd, and 42nd minute of the first half to gain a 3-1 lead at halftime. The Warriors were outshot by the Mavericks 6-16, while Michael Reger recorded seven saves.
Nyack tried to even out the score in the second half. In the 68th minute Finn Reese cut the Maverick lead to one, when he was sent through by Francois Legoedec, to score his 10th goal of the season. With seven minutes left in the game Francois Legoedec finished a Aaron Duran cross to tie the score and force overtime. The 90 minutes would finish with 27-12 shot advantage in favor of Mercy, while Reger recorded 12 saves.
The Mavericks emerged victorious on Donovan Cesar's goal at the 102:16 mark, when he blasted a cross into the upper right corner of the Warrior net.
Making his first start of the season, Reger recorded 15 saves for the Warriors, while Kwantarian Van der Lara recorded three for the Mavericks.
Nyack is back in action on Friday, October 28 when it travels to Connecticut to take on its CACC competitor, Post University for a 3 p.m. contest. Friday's game will mark the last regular season game for the Warriors.
