TUCSON, AZ - The Nyack College softball team split a pair of contests on Wednesday during day four of their nine game spring break Arizona trip. In the opener, Nyack would edge out opponents from Valley City State University 4-3 as Coach Lambertson notched her first win as head coach for the Warriors. In the second game against #31 in the nation (NCAA Div III) Alfred University, the Saxons would shutout Nyack by a final score of 4-0 to wrap up the day.
How It Happened:
vs. VCSU (G1)
VCSU made their way first on the scoreboard at the top of the third inning but a medley of singles and walks in the bottom of the third allowed Nyack to score two for the lead (2-1). The Warriors continued to have the momentum, scoring again in the bottom of the fifth inning by way of a walk, sac bunt, and a double to have a two point cushion over the Vikings (3-1).
The top of the sixth featured two solo home runs by VCSU to trim the deficit and tie the score 3-3. Both teams would be tied going in to the bottom of the seventh inning. The Warriors had their last at bat and secured the 4-3 game win for the first time on the season from a lead-off walk, a single, a walk, and then a passed ball.
vs. #31 ALFRED (G2)
Alfred jumped on top and scored a run early in the top of the first leaving the Warriors to play catch up (1-0). After three innings, Nyack would trail 2-0 as Alfred scored one run on a wild pitch while the Warriors left a runner in scoring position. The Saxons would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth as the score reflected 4-0. Nyack was unable to make a comeback in the last inning leaving the Warriors shutout 4-0 by the end of regulation.
