East Stroudsburg, PA - The Nyack College women's softball team split with the East Stroudsburg University Warriors in a non-conference road doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Warriors took game one with a score of 8-2, while East Stroudsburg came out on top in game two with a score of 6-5.
Game one saw Nyack go up by one in the top of the first inning, when Katie Lupinacci scored after a Nicole Wisser single. The Warriors added two more in the top of the sixth. Katalina Padilla homered with Nicole Wisser on base, 3-0.
Nyack took off in the top of the seventh scoring five runs. With bases loaded, Stephanie White was walked, which allowed Morgan Hans to advance to home base. Next, Nicole Wisser would single to to right field, which allowed Aferdita Sinanaj to score, before Sarah Spindel's sacrifice fly out allowed Katie Lupinacci to reach home base. Stephanie White and Nicole Wisser scored the remaining two runs to give Nyack a 8-0 lead.
East Stroudsburg would try to fight its way back into the game, but was unable to score more than two runs to cut the Nyack lead down to six.
East Stroudsburg would jump to an early 6-0 lead, scoring six runs within the first three innings. But Nyack would fight its way back into the game scoring three in the top of the fifth. Shelby Davidson scored after a Sinanaj single. Base were loaded and Katie Lupinacci was walked, which allowed Kayleigh Vandover to score. Sarah Spindel would score the last of the three runs in the top of the fifth after Stephanie White reach on a fielder's choice.
Nyack would amost complete the comeback scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh. Aferdita Sinanaj scored after a Wisser single and Lupinacci scored after a Padilla single. But Nyack came up one run short and the game ended with a score of 6-5 in favor of East Stroudsburg.
Up next: Nyack will be back on Wednesday to host the Dominican College Chargers in a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
