Softball Earns First Conference Win of the Season in Split with the Wilmington University Wildcats
The Nyack College softball team hosted Wilmington University on Wednesday in a conference doubleheader, with the Warriors splitting the games in an 8-0 loss and a 5-4 win.

In the first game, Wilmington scored early in the top of the 1st with a sacrifice RBI. Nyack left two runners on base through the next two innings, and in the top of the 3rd, Wilmington scored five times with two unearned runs and a three-run home run. Wilmington added another run in the top of the 4th with a bases-loaded walk. In the bottom of the 4th, Aferdita Sinanaj singled to get on base for the Warriors, but could not get home as three quick outs followed. Wilmington added one more run in the top of the 5th, and the Warriors were unable to answer, as the game ended in 5 innings with a Nyack loss.

In the second game, the Warriors shut down Wilmington in the 1st inning with a double play, but were not able to follow it up with a score in the bottom of the 1st. Wilmington scored first in the 2nd inning on a solo home run. In the bottom of the 3rd, Katie Lupinacci singled to get on base and then was brought in for the score on an RBI triple by Erin O'Brien to tie the score at 1-1. Wilmington added three runs in the top of the 4th on a home run by Annie Davila, her second of the game and third of the day. A quick 5th inning followed as both teams were retired on three consecutive outs. In the bottom of the 6th, Erin O'Brien singled and then advanced to third base on a double by Alissa Brugnoli. Aferdita Sinanaj grounded out to bring O'Brien home for a score, and Morgan Hans followed with a two-run homer to even the score at 4-4. In the top of the 7th, Wilmington had the bases loaded with two outs, and Nicole Wisser struck out the final batter to finish Wilmington's offensive chance. Katie Lupinacci led off the bottom of the 7th with a double for the Warriors. The next two batters flied out, but Gabrielle Placencia stepped up with two outs and hit an RBI single for a Nyack walkoff 5-4 win.

Erin O'Brien led the Warriors with 3 hits for the day, and Morgan Hans added 2 RBIs off a home run. Brittany Blair was the starting pitcher for the first game, and Nicole Wisser pitched the whole second game.

Up next, the Warriors travel to Goldey-Beacom on Saturday 3/31 with games at 1PM and 3PM.
