Women’s Hoops Falls to Caldwell, 72-62, Tuesday Night

CALDWELL, NJ –  Despite a double-double performance from Warrior junior Audrey Matteson (Monticello, IN), the Nyack College women's basketball team fell to Caldwell College on the road Tuesday night, 72-62. The Cougar win sweeps the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season series 2-0.

Inside The Game
Matteson recorded her fourth double-double of the season Tuesday night as she finished with a game-high and season best 32 points to go along with 16 rebounds in the loss. Sophomore Jamie McKeither (Laurel, MD) was the only other Warrior to score in double figures as she finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals while sophomore Tori Trador (Seminole, FL) finished with 6 points. Senior Camille Nwosu (Centreville, VA) and sophomore Jessica Logemann (Seminole, FL) provided the Warriors a spark off the bench as they finished with 5 points each. Emily Caswell led the Cougars in scoring with 24 points  to go along with 9 rebounds while Jeanette Anderson finished with her double-double exploding for 22 points and game-high 21 rebounds.

Early in the first half, Caldwell led the Warriors by a score of 11-4 but a layup from McKeither sparked a 6-0 run to get Nyack trailing by three points (14-17) with 6:43 remaining. Both teams would exchange baskets until the last three minutes of regulation where Caldwell went on to score six consecutive baskets and end the half with a 31-18 advantage.

The Cougars began the second half landing the first two baskets. At the 18:42 mark Trador hit a trey starting a huge 11-0 run that allowed Nyack to cut the deficit with the score reflecting 35-32. The Nyack team would out-score Caldwell 44-41 however it would not be enough as both teams battled to the very end. With 1:04 left the Cougars recorded seven of the last eleven points to take the 72-62 victory.

A Closer Look

  • Nyack led the night with 38 points in the paint while holding the Cougars to 28 points.
  • The Caldwell bench outscored the Warriors edging them 10-9 and won the rebounding battle 45-43.
  • Lady Warriors would record 24 second chance points compared to Caldwell's 13 and Matteson was successful on the offensive glass, snatching a game-high of 8 Warrior offensive rebounds.
  • Nyack finished 25-of-78 (32.1) overall while Caldwell shot 24-of-54 (44.4 percent).

Up Next
The Warriors return to action on Saturday February 1st to play Georgian Court University at home. The CACC contest is slated for a 3PM start.
