Nyack, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team opened up its 2016-17 season at the Roberts Wesleyan tournament. The Warriors squared off with Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, and Daemen on Saturday.

The Warriors earned an early 5-point lead at the 7:25 mark with a made jump shot by Jocelin Wright. Both teams battled hard throughout the first quarter, which would eventually finish with the score even at 16-16. Throughout the second quarter the Redhawks gained a comfortable 49-26 lead against the Warriors.
The Warriors continued to trail throughout the remainder of the game, which would eventualy finish with a score of 96-68. The Warriors were led by Janae Bailey who finished the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She was closeley followed by Jocelin Wright, who shot 7-9 for 14 point, while also adding 8 rebounds for the Warriors.
Nyack 54 Daemen 76
The Wildcats would jump to an early 6-point lead in the first quarter to finish the first 10 minutes of the game with a score of 22-14 in favor of Daemen. Nyack would come out hot in the second quarter with a 9-2 run to cut the Wildcats' lead to one at the 6:05 mark.
A 15-6 run over the first five minutes of the third quarter gave Daemen a 13-point lead, 51-38. Both teams struggled to score the rest of the quarter and Daemen took a 51-42 lead into the final quarter.
Daemen secured the win by outscoring the Warriors 12-5 over the first five minutes of the final frame and Nyack was not able to come closer than 19 points the rest of the way. Nyack was led by freshman Natalie Cortes with 12 points and four assists, freshman Bryanna Brown added 10 points.
The Nyack women's basketball returns Tuesday to travel to Mercy College for a non-conference matchup. The game will start at 7:00 pm.
