Nyack, Ny - The Nyack College women's basketball team dropped their home opener to St. Thomas Aquinas College 60-70 in a non-conference battle at Bowman Gym. Freshman Bryanna Brown led all Warriors with 15 points, Janae Bailey added 13 as the Lady Warriors dropped to 1-3 on the season, with STAC improved to 4-0 overall.
The Spartans jumped to an early 10-2 lead and held a seven point gap, 20-13, after one quarter.
The Spartans opened the second quarter with a 9-2 run. After increasing the halftime lead to 45-26, STAC saw Nyack battle through an even third quarter, which finished 57-36. Despite a strong fourth quarter by the Warriors, St. Thomas Aquinas was able to cruise to the victory.
Bailey added eight rebounds, and Kelli Smoot chipped in 11 points, two assists, and three steals for the Warriors, while STAC enjoyed a 49-40 rebounding advantage on the afternoon.
The Warriors will return to action this Tuesday, November 22, when they travel to New Jersey to face the Caldwell Cougars. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
