Nyack, N.Y. -- The Nyack College women's basketball team earned their first conference win of the season with 65-59 over the Post University Eagles in Saturday afternoon at Bowman Gymnasium.
Nyack (2-5, 1-2) had two players in double figures, led by Kelli Smoot's 15 points and seven rebounds. She was closeley followed by Tayelor McCalister with 12 points. Janae Bailey led the Warriors on the glass with a total of eight rebounds.
Nyack came out hot in the first half outscoring the Eagles 15-6 in the first quarter and 21-9 in the second. Post got on the board first at 7:33 mark, before Nyack started a 15-4 run to earn a 9-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors added to their lead during the second quarter, going 3 for 3 from behind the arc. At halftime the Warriors would lead 36-15.
The Eagles would cut the Warrior lead to 12 during the third quarter outscoring Nyack 19-10. The fourth quarter saw Post rallying back to come as close as 6 points, 62-56, with 13 second left in the game. But the Warriors held on to their lead during the final minutes with five made free throws by Tayelor McCalister. The game finished with a final score of 65-59 in favor of the Warriors.
Nyack returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6, when they travel to NJ to square of with the Blommfield College Bears. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
