Lakewood, NJ – The Nyack College women's basketball team defeated the Georgian Court University Lions, 63-55, in a conference match at the GCU Wellness Center on Tuesday night.
The Warriors (3-11, 2-6 CACC) picked up their first win of 2017, while the Lions dropped to 3-12, 1-8 CACC.
The Lions enjoyed the better start into the game starting with a 18-2 run in the first four minutes of the game. The Warriors answered with a 12-5 run to cut the Lions lead to 9 at the end of the first quarter, 14-23.
Nyack started the second quarter with a 10-4 run to cut the GCU lead down to 3 points with 3:40 to go in the first half. The Warriors came within two after a Japria Karim-Duvall three point shot at the 2:26 minute mark, but the Lions would extend their lead to six before halftime.
Nyack slowly worked its way into the game and tied the score for the first time with a Kelli Smoot bucket at the 2:54 minute mark of the third quarter. Bryanna Brown would sink the go-ahead bucket twenty seconds later, 39-37. The remaining minutes of the third quarter saw several tied scores and lead changes, but Nyack managed to come out on top of the quarter with a two point lead, 43-41.
The Lions would stun the Warriors with a 7-0 run to take back the lead, 43-48, with 8:08 to go. Nyack would answer with a 11-0 run to gain a 6-point lead, 54-48, with 4:58 to play. The Warriors were able to defend their lead through the remaining minutes of the game, which ended with a score of 63-55.
The Nyack women's basketball team will be back in action this Saturday, January 14th, when they host the Rams of Philadelphia University. Tip-off is slated for 1pm at Bowman Gym
