Women's Basketball Opened Season with Roberts Wesleyan College Tournament

Rochester, NY - The Nyack College women's basketball team opened its 2017-18 season with the Roberts Wesleyan College Tournament played last Friday and Saturday. The Warriors would fall to the Redhakws on Friday by a score of 65-104 and lost to the Daemen College Wildcats 48-67 the following day. The losses dropped Nyack's record to 0-2 on the season. 

Game 1 Nyack 65-104 Roberts Wesleyan

Both teams battled back and fourth in the first five minutes of the first quarter with the score tied at 7 with 5:30 to go. The Redhawks would use a 13-0 run making the score 7-20 with 1:47 remaining in the first period. The first quarter eventually finished with a score of 13-26. The Redhawks enjoyed the better start into the second quarter increasing their lead with a 12-3 run, 16-38 at the 6th minute mark. The Redhawks would increase their 22 point lead to 28 until halftime. The dominant play by the Redhawks continued throughout the third and fourth quarter and the game eventuall finished with a final score of 65-104 in favor of Roberts Wesleyan.

Nyack was led by sophomores Jocelin Wright with 18 points and Bryanna Brown with 17. 

Game 2 Nyack 48-67 Daemen 

The Wildcats would jump to an early lead with a 10-3 run. This 7-point lead would remain steadfast throughout the remainder of the first quarter, which ended with a score of 8-15. Throughout the second period the Wildcats would increase their lead to as much as 16 points before the Warriors fought their way back into game cutting the lead down to 10 before halftime. The Warriors tried to slowly chip away on Daemen's lead, but the Wildcats kept the Warriors at bay and eventually increased their lead to 16 before the end of the third quarter, 37-53. The fourth quarter saw both teams going back and fourth and eventually ended with a final score of 48-67. 

Nyack was led by senior Adurey Matteson with 16 points on the night, while sophomore Bryanna Brown contributed 11 points.

Up next: The Warriors will be back in action on Friday when they host the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans for their 2017-18 home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7pm.
