Warriors Fall To Wilmington University

WILMINGTON, DE (April, 6 2013)

The Nyack Lacrosse team traveled to face Wilmington University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Back-to-back goals in the first period proved to be too much for the Lady Warriors to overcome as they would fall 21-4 at the Wildcat Sports Complex.

It was Wilmington's Senior Day. They began the game with honoring seniors on both teams. Nyack seniors would include Amanda Farrell (Fort Meyers, FL) and Maranda Ohlson (Alexander, NY).

The Warrior's came out strong against Wilmington in the first 10 minutes they were able to control the play and obtain two goals. Lauren Lebo would fire in the first Warrior goal after a minute on the field.

Thirty seconds later, the Lady Wildcats would respond with a goal of their own, tying the game 1-1. The Nyack team communicated well with keeping there heads up to looking for passes, and moving the ball around much quicker, which did not allow the defense to settle.

At 26:28 Selena Vargas (Swan Lake, NY) would land the next Nyack goal allowing for the team's first and only lead of the contest, 2-1.

Wilmington sensed the threat and stepped their game up looking for fast breaks and drives. Nyack worked hard not to get beat in the midfield but needed to be quicker back on the recovery.

Wilmington had a run of of 10 points before Nyack was able to get score their 3rd goal at 9:02 by attack, Selena Vargas.

In the second half, although the ladies were hustling and improved on their draw control, they were reacting more than running the game.

Their anticipation helped them get the ball they failed to keep possession. The Warriors missed too many free shots and wasted opportunities on attack making poor shots choices after playing hard to move the ball down the field.

Wilmington was able to get goal side of their defender for and capitalized on the open shot. Nyack got one last goal to bring their total up to 4 points in the last minute of the game by Lebo.

In the end, the final score would show 4-21 to give the Lady Wildcats the victory.

Coach Dietrich-Reis: "I was happy to see some good improvements, we had some shimmering moments that need to be polished. Although it was still a big loss I am seeing things start to click in the girls heads."
