With the win Nyack achieved their first victory in the history of the program, which began just a year ago. Warrior Lacrosse improves to a 1-8 overall record while the EC Lions fall to 6-6 on the season.
Inside The Game:
The first half of the game showcased a unison team of fired up girls ready to make history. The attack, midfield, and defense worked together to keep Emmanuel at bay straight into the second half. The Lady Warriors led Emmanuel in ground balls, caused turn overs, and free position shots. By the end of the first half, the Lady Warriors were up and ready to put Emmanuel in running time.
The second half highlighted great sportsmanship from both teams. The Lady Warriors managed to put the EC Lions in running time. However, Emmanuel fought their way to close the gap scoring four consecutive goals and stopping the clock. With pressure rising on the field, the Warriors took a time out. They returned to the field and pulled together as a team to regain the lead. The midfield transitions, defensive slides, and Nyack goalkeeper, Jackie Simeon, saves allowed the Warriors to blow past the Lions with ten minutes left of the second half. The game ended with a score of 23-13 making the 2013-2014 cohort the first Women's Lacrosse team to receive a win for Nyack.
Sophomore Lauren Lebo (West Simsbury, CT) led the Nyack team tonight scoring an impressive career-high 12 goals and won over 50-percent of the draw controls on the night. Senior Warrior Stacey Cervantes (Whittier, CA) had a personal-best game as well netting 4 goals in the effort while teammates Amanda Carter (Franklin, NH) and Grace Orbine (Asbury, NJ) split 3 goals apiece. In addition, Sophomore Victoria Lopez-Nash (Bayville, NJ) contributed with a goal as she respectively improves her season tally to three total on the year. Additional game details coming soon!
Words From Coach:
"I could not be more pleased with such a solid and well earned first win. The girls have continually worked hard and worked together to make this win possible. It is rewarding to enjoy the success of a victory and look forward as a team to a culture of wins on and off the field."
The Warriors will return to action next week when they travel to local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents from Dominican College as they prepare for an April month full of conference play. Game time is set for 4PM at the Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillsburn, NY on Thursday April 3rd.
