Nyack, NY - Nyack College women's lacrosse junior Victoria Silvers achieved a career milestone in today's game against the Wilmington University Wildcats. The junior from Long Island, NY, scored her 100th collegiate career goal. Silvers needed to score three goals to break the magical 100 goal mark and she did so in the second half of the game, when teammate Abby Wilmot assisted with 14 minutes to go.
The Warriors were upended in their first conference match of the year by a margin of 10 goals. The game ended with a final score of Wilmington 22, Nyack 12.
Wilmington scored twice within the first two minutes to jump to an early two-goal lead. Nyack would answer with a goal scored by Emily Sigmon. Wilmington would add another two goals to earn a 4-1 lead with 23 minutes to go. Victoria Silvers and Abby Wilmot would bring the Warriors back within one, 4-3, with 18:31 to play in the first half. However, the Wildcats would jump ahead with four unanswered goals to take a five goal lead, before Nyack's Sigmon would add her second of the day to make the score 8-4. Wilmington would close out the scoring of the first half with three more goals and the first half finished with a score of 11-4 in favor of the Wildcats.
The Wildcats only needed 18 seconds in the second half to score their next goal. But Julianna Kranes would get one back only a few seconds later to score her second goal of the season. Silvers would add another goal for the Warriors and was only one goal away from breaking the 100 goal mark. But the Wildcats had other plans and scored five unanswered goals to jump to a 11-goal lead with 16:33 to play. Wilmot would score her second of the day to cut the Wildcat lead down to 10. At the 14:16 minute mark Victoria Silvers scored her third goal of the day with the assist coming of Wilmot, to break through the 100 goal wall. Wilmington would add another one with 12 minutes to go, before Kranes, Wilmot, and Silvers scored three unanswered ones for the Warriors to make the score 11-18. But the Wildcats answered with three unanswered goal of their own within a minute to jump back to their 10-goal lead. With one minute left Silvers scored her fifth goal of the day to bring Nyack back within one, but Wilmington would conclude the scoring of the day with a goal in the last minute of the game. The final score was Nyack 12, Wilmington 22.
