The Nyack College lacrosse team traveled to take on the University of District Columbia on Tuesday, with the Warriors getting their first road win in a 19-8 victory over the Firebirds.
In the first half, the two teams battled back-and-forth, answering each other's scores to keep the score tied in the first 20 minutes of the game. UDC started off the scoring with a goal in the first minute, and Jocelin Wright put Nyack on the board with a score at 3:40. After a UDC score at 8:07, Melissa Clapsaddle scored at 11:59, and Julianna Kranes answered UDC's goal at 12:24 with an unassisted score at 16:01. The Firebirds scored almost immediately at 16:23, and Melissa Clapsaddle tied the score back up at 4-4 with a goal at 17:10. The Firebirds scored one more time at 19:02, but for the rest of the half, Nyack's offense took over. Tori Silvers scored three goals in a row to turn the momentum in the Warriors' favor, at 20:30, 22:20, and 23:49. Jocelin Wright closed out the half with two consecutive goals, with a score at 25:06 and a free-position goal at 29:37. The Warriors went into halftime up 9-5.
Nyack continued the scoring surge into the second half, as Tori Silvers kicked off the half with two goals at 32:22 and 33:22. Courtney LaTorre added a score at 34:53, and Julianna Kranes scored twice in less than a minute at 41:35 and 42:04. Tori Silvers charged in for an unassisted goal at 43:51. UDC stopped Nyack's scoring streak with a goal at 45:19, but the Warriors bounced right back with two scores - one from Lindsay Miller at 47:56 and one from Tori Silvers at 50:45. UDC would score twice more, but Tori Silvers finished the game with two goals at 55:43 and 59:37, and the Warriors took the victory.
Tori Silvers led the Warriors with 9 goals and 5 assists, and Melissa Clapsaddle picked up 5 ground balls.
