Nyack, NY - The Nyack College women's soccer team hosted the Holy Family University Tigers on Saturday afternoon in their home and CACC opener. The game ended in dramatic fashion in 2OT with a score of 2-3 in favor of the Tigers.
The game started rather slow. Both teams were playing reserved and tried tried to figure out the oppenent. The Warriors got better into the game at the ten minute mark and spent the majority of the first half in the Tiger's half. At the 20th minute mark junior Camila Parada found Kaelan Kanai with a beautiful through ball, which the sophomore would put in the left lower corner of the net to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead. The Warriors had another reason to celebrate a minute later when a Abisag Ramirez cross found freshman Shanice Rapp who put the Warriors up by two. Holy Family pushed a little more trying to get one back before halftime, but the Warriors were able to keep the Tigers away from their goal and the first half finshed with a score of 2-0.
The Tigers saw more of the game in the second half trying to fight their way back into the game. In the 49th minute leading scorer Bree Rock was set up by teammate Stefanie Ulmer to cut the lead Nyack lead to one. Kaitlyn Findlay used a miscommunication in the Nyack defense to tie the game in the 64th minute. Both teams tried to find the game winner but the 90 minutes finished with the score of 2-2 pushing the game to overtime.
The Tigers found the game winner in the second period of overtime when Rock took a shot from 20 yards out on the right side to catapult the ball over freshman goalkeeper Nicole Benesch. The Tigers outshot the Warriors by a margin of 19-7 with nine shots on goal. Nicole Benesch saved six of these including a pair of spectucal saves in the second half to keep the Warriors in the game.
Nyack will be back on Wednesday when they travel to local rivals Dominican College. Kick off is slated for 3:30pm.
