Volleyball Clinches Third Spot in CACC North Despite Loss to Jefferson on Senior Day

Nyack, Ny - The Nyack College women's volleyball team hosted the Jefferson University Rams in their final regular season game on Saturday afternoon. Before the game Coach Raquel Shaffer honored the three parting seniors Kaitlyn Massey, Megan Ma'afala-Maiava, and Larreya Hayden

THE BASICS:
Final: Jefferson 3, Nyack 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21)
Records: JU (23-9, 16-3 CACC), NC (11-17, 10-9 CACC)
Location: Nyack, New York 

GAME SUMMARY:

  • the first set was tightly contested by both teams, Jefferson pulled away with the scored tied at 20 to set up a 25-23 win in set one
  • Jefferson came out hot in the second set jumping to a 13-1 lead, but Nyack fought their way back and cut the lead down to two, 18-16
  • Nyack's comeback effort in set two was not enough to stop the Rams from clinching set two with a score of 25-18
  • The third set was similar to the first and saw a lot of back and forth action early in the game, Jefferson pulle away with the score tied at 16 to take the third and final set with a score of 25-21

KEY PERFORMERS:
Nyack was led by senior Larreya Hayden with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .269. Teammate and sophomore Kyra Zuhlke added eight kills and five total blocks. British Dawson led the Nyack defense with 16 digs, while Rachel Medin orchestrated the offense with 22 assists.

The Warriors finished the season in third place in the CACC North with a 10-9 conference record, which place the team in a CACC quarterfinal match against the Georgian Court University Lions on Tuesday at 6pm.
