Giampolo Pitches Two Complete Games in Sweep Over Jefferson

Orangeburg , NY - The Nyack College softball team earned their first sweep of the season when they defeated the Jefferson University Rams on Saturday afternoon with scores of 8-2 and 4-1.

Game Summary:

Game 1:

  • Nyack opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Erin O'Brien scored off a Alissa Brugnoli sacrifice fly
  • the Warriors continued to add on to there lead in the bottom of the second when Morgan Hans homered 
  • Kayleigh VanDover also reached home after an error by Jefferon's pitcher
  • in the bottom of the third Nyack's catcher Katie Lupinacci was up to bat with Hans on base and smashed the ball over the fence in center field to add another pair of runs
  • Jefferson got one back with a homerun of their own in the top of the 4th
  • but the Warriors answered back right away; Alissa Brugnoli scored off a Kayleigh VanDover single up the middle, before Kate Lupinacci got her second home run of the day to make it 8-1 for the Warriors
  • Jefferson got one more run in in the top of 7th when they scored their second home run of the day. 

Game 2:

  • Nyack once again got on the scoreboard first: Alissa Brugnoli made her way to third base when Morgan Hans came up to bat
  • Hans bunted down the third base line and Brugnoli sqeezed herself past the Rams defense to reach home plate for the first run of the game
  • Jefferson tied the game back up at one in the top of the fourth
  • Nyack took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth with three scored runs
  • the Rams' defense tried to make a play on Nyack's left fielder Krissy Johnson who was stealing second; in the process Johnson was hit in the helmet by the ball which ricochet past Jefferson's second base man to roll all the way out to center field, which allowed Johnson to make it to home plate
  • Erin O'Brien then scored off a Janelle Adams single, before Arielys Rodriguez completed the scoring for Nyack on the day when she scored of a Alissa Brugnoli fly out

Key Performances:
Pitcher Alyssa Giampolo pitched two complete games and earned both wins on the day. She allowed two earned runs and struck out a combined 11 batters over both games. Katie Lupinacci finished the day with a combined four hits in six at bats, with two home runs and four runs batted in. 

Up Next:
Nyack will be back on Monday to host the Kutztown University Golden Bears at 2 and 4pm in a non-conference double-header.
