The Nyack College Warriors Softball team faced off today in an away conference double header against the Caldwell University Cougars. The games were split, the final score of the first game being 10-7 Warriors, and the final score of the second game being 11-3 Cougars. The win in game one marks the firts time the Warriors beat the Cougars since 2004.
The Warriors started off the game with a run scored from a throwing error by second base helping Alissa Brugnoli reach first and Katie Lupinacci make it home. At the top of the second inning, bases were loaded and Erin O'Brien hit a homerun to center field bringing in 4 RBIs for her team. At this point in the game the score was 6-3, the Warriors were up by three. In the third inning, Caldwell homeruned to left field but in the 4th inning Nyack follows up with a homerun hit by Katie Lupinacci scoring 2 RBIs. Caldwell managed to score 2 more runs but it was not enough to catch up to the Warriors.
The game had a slow start and scoring began in the third inning when Caldwell doubled to right center. At the top of the 5th inning Janelle Adams homeruned to center field bringing in 2 RBIs for her team. In the same inning Alissa Brugnoli was able to reach home on a wild pitch scoring the last run for the Warriors in this game. Caldwell dominated the scoreboard for the rest of the innings, ending the game in the 6th inning.
The Warriors Softball team will compete against Goldey-Beacom in a home conference double header on Saturday April 13th, at 2 and 4PM.
