Warriors Volleyball Wins First Game of the Season Against Queens College

The Nyack Women's Volleyball team returned back to action for another away tri-match today against Queens and Le Moyne College. The Warriors won their first game of the season against Queens College with 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17). 

Game One

Queens college took the first point of the first set but quickly fell behind to the Warriors when Kyra Zuhlke earned a kill and British Dawson earned a point on a service ace. At a score of 8-5 the Warriors went on a run scoring five points in a row featuring two kills by Bailey Medeiros, a kill by Kyra Zuhlke and a service ace by Cassady Hymes. At this time in the set the score was 13-6 Nyack. The Warriors kept their lead and took the game with a lead of seven points.

At the start of the second set the Warriors stole the first point with a kill by Kyra Zuhlke. Queens and Nyack stayed close in score until 7-5 when Nyack started their run putting them in the lead by 7 points. Nyack had another scoring run at 13-7 scoring five more points putting them 10 points ahead of Queens. The Warriors lead was hard to break and resulted in Nyack stealing the set. 

The third and final set of the game started with a point for Nyack with a kill by Kyra Zuhlke. The Warriors went on a scoring run early in the game putting them in the lead at 7-2. In the middle of the game, Queens scored 5 points in a row slightly bridging the score gap but it wasn't enough to break the Warrior's lead. Nyack consistently stayed 7 points ahead of Queens winning the last set and taking the whole match. 

Highlights: British Dawson had 5 service aces and 14 digs. Kyra Zuhlke had 8 kills and 5 blocks. 

Game Two 

In the second game of the day the Nyack College women's volleyball team fell to the Le Moyne College Dolphins in three with scores of 17-25, 22-25, and 23-25. 

Le Moyne scored the first point of the first set but Nyack started off strong with a kills by Kirby CuellarRachel Medin, and Paige Easley putting Nyack in the lead early on in the game. In the middle of the game Le Moyne began to creep ahead earning 3 points in a row, interrupted by an attack error, but then earning 5 more points in a row. Nyack didn't give up but they were unable to bridge the gap of points and lost the set to Le Moyne. 

Both teams started off strong in the second set staying steady and trading points until a score of 4-6 when Le Moyne earned 5 points in a row placing them in the lead. Nyack played even harder to catch up and was successful, at the score of 12-10, the Warriors scored seven points in a row featuring a kill and 3 aces by Bailey Medeiros. Nyack did not give up their lead until Le Moyne tied up the score at 20-20 with an error by Nyack. Both teams began to trade points but Le Moyne came out on top stealing the set from Nyack. 

The third and final set started with Le Moyne taking the first 2 points. Nyack scord their first point of the set on a kill by Kyra Zuhlke. Both teams started off strong and kept the momentum throughout the whole game. NYack was no more than 2 points behind Le Moyne. In the end Le Moyne came out on top taking the set and winning the match.

Warrior Highlights: Rachel Medin had 3 kills out of 7 total attemots with 0 errors. Her hitting percentage was a .429. She also had 20 assists and 2 service aces.

Up Next: The Warriors will compete in another away tri-match at the College of Saint Rose where they will play the host team as well LockHaven University. These matches will take place on Saturday September 14th at 1 and 3PM.
